BMC Participation Statement
The BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions
Before climbing at the Street you will need to complete the waiver. If you have climbing experience, you will be able to climb unsupervised once you have completed a short competency test. Once registered as a competent climber you can sign in two novice climbers under your own supervision. Climbers aged under 18 but over 14 who have passed the competency test can climb unsupervised, but cannot supervise novice climbers.

Street Rocks is CaVCA’s indoor climbing facility based at The Street, Scarborough and is part of our vision to grow the rock climbing community along the coast. By fostering an inclusive and vibrant space, the facility hopes to inspire more people to embrace this rewarding activity which improves physical health and emotional wellbeing, as well as being lots of fun.
Our newly expanded climbing facilities now provide top rope and lead climbing up to 14m, including a rock replica wall, along with our existing 10m training wall, and a small bouldering cave.
Following over three years of planning and development, CaVCA is delighted to be able to provide these new facilities for residents and visitors to Scarborough. Rock climbing and bouldering have increased in popularity over recent years, and new climbing facilities are opening across the country. Despite this, here on the coast, our climbing community has to travel to access indoor roped climbing facilities. CaVCA worked with our climbing community to identify how we could address this here in Scarborough – following the exploration of a range of options from new build to renovation, it was determined that retrofitting expanded climbing into the Street, a building we already own and manage, would be the most cost effective way forward.
The benefits of rock climbing are well documented – in addition to improving physical fitness, climbing is proven to benefit mental health, problem solving, communication skills, focus, team work and community. The climbing community is one of the most inclusive sports communities around, with climbers keen to welcome newcomers and share their skills, experience and enthusiasm. Climbing is for anyone of any age and level of fitness, and Street Rocks can provide accessible and inclusive climbing for all. Climbing is also highly beneficial for children and young people, helping to develop confidence, resilience, communication and aspirations. Rock climbing is now an Olympic sport – and at the 2024 Olympics, Team GB’s Toby Roberts won gold. Street Rocks provides an opportunity for climbers young and old to develop their passion for this amazing activity.
