A few months ago a few of our climbers were talking about how great it would be for us to have a Moonboard – a technical training board focusing on strength and technique mainly for outdoor climbing. We’d done a sponsored 24 hour Climbathon before, when we were trying to raise funds for Street Rocks, so we thought we’d try again – lets try and raise £10k to buy a Moonboard for Street Rocks.
So on the Weekend of 25/26 October 2025 20 intrepid climbers set out to circumnavigate the moon (1km = 1m climbed) to raise the funds we needed. We also needed to gather a ‘crowd’ of at least 50 and raise £5k from that ‘crowd’ to release £5k pledged by Sport England. We’re delighted to say we did it – we smashed our climbing target…and our fundraising target 🙂
Exactly one month after completing our challenge we received delivery of our Moonboard – thanks to Moon Climbing for a great service.
Thanks so much to our climbing community, our ‘crowd’, all the sponsors who helped us out:
- Ashbrowns for our breakfast sandwiches;
- Wendy’s Bakehouse for furnishing us with cakes;
- Scarborough Building Plastics for lending us a forklift and helping hands to unload our Moonboard;
- Lesley Armour for post-climbathon massages and donating the money to our cause;
- Get Taped Up for the magnificent finger tape, and
- Gekco for the best chalk.
- Thanks to Scarborough round Table for their £1k donation on the day and to
- Sport England for believing in us and matching our £5k raised.
We love you all and couldn’t have done it without you. This is the power of community. This is the power of climbing.
