Back Alley, Big Impact: Scarborough Neighbours Unite
What started as a simple clean up turned into something much more. Residents of Scarborough came together to transform their shared back alley and in just a couple of hours, more progress was made than anyone expected.
Overgrown weeds were cleared, rubbish removed, and forgotten corners brought back to life. But perhaps the most powerful change was the sense of community, neighbours who had never met before shared stories, laughter, and a renewed sense of pride in their shared space.
A small act of action sparked a big wave of connection.
This is just the beginning. A follow up date has already been arranged, and we hope this momentum continues as more residents take ownership of the alley and help keep it clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.
‘As a result of our shared efforts, I walked along the alley this morning and chatted with Anne, whom I had not encountered before we met yesterday. She proudly showed me her garden and said how lovely it was to get to know neighbours. I was also able to chat to Ben about our efforts. So, as you can see, you are already giving us further interaction and a sense of community. Very well done to you and grateful thanks to CaVCA.’
